What inspired you to persue a career in Directing?
In film exists a captivating unity of art forms that converge to create a story. From how an image looks (cinematography) to the music, every aspect of filmmaking contributes to emo- tions felt by the audience. Embarking on a film journey, the choice to join the world of film is more like stepping into a realm where imagination knows no bounds and which makes the field beautiful. But this can be both a beautiful and scary field as it is quiet expensive. From film schools to the equipment used, which is why most opt to invest in equipment and learn the craft on set.
What advice do you have for upcoming African Directors?
For aspiring filmmakers, the decision to pursue a career in film should be driven by a deep passion for storytelling and a desire to share your unique perspectives with the world. This passion should be enough to help overcome what ever obstacles that might come. Whether drawn to the magic of visual effects, screenwriting, or the art of directing, each individual brings their own talents and insights to the collaborative process of filmmaking.
Could you share some of the challenges you’ve faced in your journey and how you overcame them?
Young film makers often face challenges and obstacles along the way. Budget constraints, creative differences, the journey to bring a film to fruition is filled with ups and downs. Yet, it is precisely these challenges that make the creative process interesting. A mistake most film makers make is thinking they can get everything done on their own. Having people specialized in different departments gives a project character and helps each aspect of the project have the best quality possible as each department strives to give the best result.Â
What advice would you give to aspiring creatives looking to enter the industry?
From the perspective of a young director, each film represents an opportunity to learn and share a vision with the world. Be ready to learn from others as thats the only way you build your knowledge on the craft. The other big challenge young film makers face in my opinion is focus. A good story can be told with a budget of zero with a good team. Stay focused on why you got in the industry in the first place, go out there and create something. Share your work with others and be ready for feedback as that's how you know what to improve on.Â
